Xanthan Gum is a high-molecular-weight polysaccharide produced by the fermentation of glucose by the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris. In skincare, it serves as a stabilizer and thickener that creates a 'smooth-glide' effect. As a humectant, it forms a light, breathable film that reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL). It is zero-comedogenic and zero-irritant. It is a logical foundational ingredient for acne-safe formulations, as it provides product stability and surface moisture without adding any oily residue.
