Science & Benefits
Sodium Surfactin is a cyclic lipopeptide biosurfactant produced by the bacterium *Bacillus subtilis*. In 2026 formulations, it is used at very low concentrations as a 'penetration-boosting' humectant. It lowers the surface tension of water-based serums, allowing other humectants like HA or PGA to penetrate deeper into the stratum corneum. It is completely non-comedogenic and much gentler than synthetic surfactants. For acne-prone individuals, it ensures that hydrating actives reach the deeper layers of the epidermis without disrupting the fragile lipid barrier.
