Sodium Gluconate is the salt of gluconic acid, produced by the fermentation of glucose. It functions as a mild humectant and a superior chelating agent, binding to metal ions (like calcium and magnesium) in hard water that can otherwise irritate the skin and cause 'soap scum' clogs in pores.
