Science & Benefits
Sodium Chloride is used to adjust the viscosity of surfactant-based products. While seemingly harmless, it is a Red-Flag comedogen (Rating 5). Its mechanism is osmotic; it dehydrates the follicular epithelium, causing cells to shed prematurely and clump together with sebum to form a solid plug. While safe in rinse-off cleansers, its presence in leave-on hair products or moisturizers is a primary cause of 'Acne Cosmetica' on the forehead and jawline.
