Phytic Acid is a naturally occurring alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) found in the seeds of grains, legumes, and rice. It is distinguished from other AHAs by its unique ability to function as a powerful chelating agent, binding to heavy metals like calcium and iron found in tap water. This prevents these metals from generating free radicals that oxidize sebum and cause pore-clogging. It provides exceptionally gentle enzymatic exfoliation, making it suitable for sensitive acne-prone skin that cannot tolerate Glycolic acid. Furthermore, it acts as a mild humectant and skin-brightening agent by inhibiting tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) left behind by blemishes.
