Octyldodecanol
Science & Benefits
Octyldodecanol is a long-chain, branched fatty alcohol that serves as a high-performance lubricant and solvent. Unlike simple alcohols (like Ethanol), Octyldodecanol is moisturizing and does not dry out the skin. It is frequently used to dissolve pigments in makeup or to improve the spreadability of thick balms. While it carries a low-to-moderate comedogenic rating of 2, it is generally considered safe when used in balanced formulations. However, because it is a fatty alcohol, it can be a 'Yellow Flag' for those with severe oil-production issues, as it can occasionally contribute to the 'weight' of a product, potentially leading to slight congestion if not thoroughly cleansed from the skin.
