Science & Benefits

Isoeugenol is a phenylpropene, a type of guaiacol, found in the essential oils of plants like Ylang-Ylang and Clove. It is recognized as one of the most frequent allergens in the fragrance industry. Its primary danger lies in its ability to oxidize into even more potent sensitizers when exposed to air. Topical exposure often leads to localized redness, itching, and the formation of inflammatory bumps. Because these bumps often appear at the site of the hair follicle, they are frequently misdiagnosed as acne. Its high irritancy rating makes it a poor choice for any formulation intended for use on broken, sensitive, or acne-prone skin barriers.
