CI 45370
Science & Benefits
CI 45370, also known as D&C Orange No. 5, is a xanthene-based synthetic pigment used primarily in lipsticks and cheek stains. It is scientifically documented as one of the most highly comedogenic colorants in use. Its molecular structure is exceptionally compatible with human sebum, allowing it to easily infiltrate and solidify within the hair follicle. This leads to 'acne cosmetica,' a condition where breakouts occur specifically in areas where the pigment is applied. Even at small concentrations, this dye can trigger significant inflammatory responses in the pores. Users with acne-prone skin should treat this ingredient as a major red flag.
Safety Alerts
