CI 15880
Science & Benefits
CI 15880 is a deep, dark red calcium salt pigment often utilized to achieve 'burgundy' or 'plum' shades. Unlike Red No. 6, this specific pigment has a chemical structure that is highly compatible with human sebum. This lipid affinity allows the pigment to infiltrate the sebaceous unit more easily, where it can aggregate and form a physical obstruction. It is documented as a moderate comedogen (3), making it a significant risk factor for 'acne cosmetica.' Users who apply heavy cream blushes containing this dye may notice clusters of skin-colored bumps along the cheekbones where the pigment has successfully lodged in the follicles.
Safety Alerts
