Agar
Science & Benefits
Agar is a gelatinous polysaccharide derived from the cell walls of red algae (Rhodophyta). It is unique because it forms a robust 'hydrogel' that exhibits a sustained-release mechanism, slowly delivering water to the skin over several hours. This prevents the 'dehydration spikes' that can trigger compensatory sebum production in oily skin. Agar is exceptionally stable and carries a zero comedogenic rating. It provides a cooling, soothing sensation upon application, which is highly beneficial for reducing the 'heat' and discomfort associated with inflammatory acne papules and cystic lesions.
